I want to create my own email address. How do I do that?

I realize this pertains to setting up a mail server, but what sort of infrastructure do I need to support that? I only need one email account. Do I need to register a domain name with the internet?

*ALL* of the details are beyond the scope of Yahoo answers, but if you purchase a domain name and get a "hosting provider" then you're home free.

If you want your first and last name, you should try https://www.hover.com/ because that's what they specialize in. Start there.
Reply:Yes, you have to register a Domain Name. My recommendations is HostGator (www.hostgator.com). You can create a certain amout of email addresses. I think it is 1-7. Or you can use a great domain hosting service (www.whois.com). If you have any more questions about your PC, go to www.pclounge.net/forums for reasonable and quick answers.
Reply:To make a custom email address you will need to purchase the domain you want to use, and I think you will need to purchase a web-hosting provider as they usually provide email aswell.
Reply:Unless you want one related to a domain, such as john@john.com then yes you'd need a domain. Generally your ISP can supply the server for one email address and its free/low fee.
Reply:You would need to register your own domain name, then find somebody to host a mail server for you. You may be able to use the same company for both.
